Auto Expo 2008 - New Tata Indica Vista Unveiled

Permalink 09:46:52 pm, Categories: Launch Pad, Scoops

Tata Motors kept the buzz going around its stall at the Auto Expo 2008 by unveiling the new Indica Vista on the first day. The new Indica will come into the market by the middle of 2008 and would sell alaongside the current Indica but with a different name. The new Indica is light years ahead of the current Indica in terms of design and performance. It has a more proportionate and sporty stance with the front end getting extra stretched headlamps and a larger grille.

New Tata Indica V3 Launched Auto Expo 2008 Picture Review

The car looks like its the old Indica on steroids, its pumped up. The new Indica would compete with the premium B segment hatchbacks including the Getz, Swift, Aveo-UVA and Palio. The interiors are still under development and were not opened to the media at the expo however the instrument cluster has been moved to the center, a trend which i dont quite approve of for more reasons than one.

New Tata Indica X1 Picture Auto Expo 2008 Price Mileage

The new Indica is longer and wider than the current model with more legroom inside. The new Indica would be powered by a 1.3 litre quadra jet common rail diesel engine (sourced from Fiat and the same engine which does duty in the Swift) and a 1.2 litre VVT petrol engine which would be manufactured at the Fiat-tata plant at Ranjangaon in Maharashtra. The new Indica would have larger 14 inch wheels with 175/65 spec tubeless tyres and finally the tyres fill up the wheelarch unlike the current Indica. The new Indica is likely to be priced between Rs.4 - 5 lakh and would be launched by the middle of 2008.

I am sure the new Indica would be a success no matter what its called but Tata Motors would need to keep in check the small niggling problems which crop up and the fit and finish which was not upto the mark on their show car at the Auto Expo (see picture of door rubber beading coming off)

Instrument cluster in the middle is the current European trend that is being followed even by Japanese models like Toyota Yaris. However, the central instrument cluster should curve in a way so that it faces towards the driver.

The back should have been better designed. Looks like the old Indica, Nano and the new Indica share the same back panel !

I was waiting for this car from a long time, well
well everything looks absolutely fine except
the instrument cluster which is in the
middle , i would not like to drive without
the cockpit feeling which is given by the
instrument cluster in front of me, i dont
want others to know what speed iam driving
in, i think tata might loose potential
customers because of this

I am currently owning an Indica and in the
new model also I see that there is nothing
much done to the steering position which is so
very high compared to the seating position.
This is causing shoulder pain on long drives.

Tata should concentrate on after sales service and repair, a department they fail in, here in South Africa. ALso Tata should concentrate on car's and their steel industry and forget about tea plantations , etc. Imagine BMW or Mercedes selling tea. Silly is'nt it.

great looks, much better than indica prev models.but there are some scratches in this too
1.steering wheel height-shud have been a litl bit more lower.it does give shoulder pains on long drives.
2.instrument cluster shud not be in th middle as this gives the car a mickey mouse car look.we dontr wna tthat.we need a small powerful beast hehehe..
3.a little more better plastics please!!

what i liked
1.twin head lamps.hehehe..
2.front styling

hope it will aquire the market soon but one
thing that the front grill of the car should
not be like this it seems to be like older
one. I think the front grill should be like
safari dicor(new).

i like this car a lot. looks are much more refined as compared to the older version of indica. i was planning to buy a car by april this year but now i think that i should wait for the launch of new indica. Great job done by tata. but one thing that tata should refine it's R&D department . if tata wants to aquire the B segment market than 'll have to do so. 'm also a tata user earlier i had an indica than i bought an indica V2 now 'm using a safari. hope this car 'll come up to the expectations. ALL THE BEST

I'm at one with Partha. In order to make its launch a success I thing the following 4 sugestions should be given heed to imdly by the mfr.
a)The new one should better have an upright (like Ratanji) hatch dicky as the fusion has, and not rounded. That gives it a smart tall boy look.
b)Interiors should be Beige only.
c)Seating should be high unlike old indica, and rears should have tri-headrest,commensurate with its width.
d)Pricing should be at par with dicor indica and not higher, if reqd, current models'prices may be lowered to make the diffeence.
e)Should be launched before Nano.

Tata's should be commended for revolutionizing the indian car industry. They are creating new cars as well as new segments not thought of before. The new indica is a step in that direction. The design is fresh and good but to make it a market leader it requires to do

1)Give a better grille
2)Redesigh the back to be tall (to be something similar to U-VA)
3)Better plastics and window rubber

Hi Sundar......Tatas offer more value for
money when compared to Hyundai or other
cars..... They try to reach the masses with
diesel models which those people can
afford and you must appreciate that.
For the money you pay definitely you get
what that money deserves......

Hi Sundar, You should appreciate something
that is happening in our country. Tatas have
come a long way in building what they have
achieved today. They try to reach the
masses which no foreign company has tried.
Noone offers a diesel car for 3.5lacs to our
People which Tatas are doing. You have the
rights to comment but pls think thru before
you do it.

That's a brilliant team work once again! Congratulations TATA Motors! The overall European looks very impessive. Even in late 1998 when TATA launched the first Indicas, i was very impressed with the looks. The interiors look very ergonomical in general. There are chances that people wouldnt like the concept of instrument cluster in center. Toyota Yaris (available here in Canada & the US) has the same concept and from my experience of driving that car, it takes time to get used to it and i would personally prefer to have it right in front of me than in the center. It would be great if TATA can have a modification possible regarding that issue. Also as pointed by the author, TATA really needs to take care of those final touches and finishes. When I bought the car in year 2000, i was able to find so many minor flaws in the finishing and final touches. I hope the pic pointed above regarding the defect is just an exception. Overall it's going to be a hit once again!

the front and the sides of the car don't seem to have been designed for hatchback. the new indigo though will now look like a proper sedan. just wish that they don't have the instrument cluster in the center in the indigo and they should also change the rear door for it.

Follow this formula & You would take Tata Indica to new heights. Its common sense yet uncommon.
Agreed? Try it ... before some other company tries it particularly with taxi drivers in Mumbai.

Good awaited car By TATA,,, Good style, better interiors but only thing which pinches is the instrument pannel at middle of dashboard which is seen in few cars of Euorope/japan & people in india are not used to it.Instrument pannel is to give instant information to a person on drivers seat that too at a glance......can tata midify the same in the current model.
