2011 Land Rover Freelander 2
While we knew that Tata owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) would ultimately commence production in India we weren’t assuming it would happen so quick.
As it turns out, JLR has confirmed to the media that it is beginning with India production this November. It’s manufacturing base will be Tata’s plant in Chikhli (Maharashtra) which was earlier given out on lease to Mercedes-Benz India. The first model to be built in India will be the Land Rover Freelander 2.
This entry level SUV which is currently imported from the U.K is priced at Rs. 33.55 lakh and once produced in India could see its price getting rationalised quite a bit. Tata must be aiming at the Fortuner with the Freelander 2 which has recently been updated with the 2011 model. The Freelander 2 would launch by early 2011 and will be followed by other models from the JLR stable.
JLR is also looking at doubling its dealerships in India by March 2011 to handle the new locally produced Freelander 2’s sales and service.

And 8automatic gears, .5 inch longer, and slightly smaller engine, lighter weight due to more use of aluminium. BMW is determined to blow the competetion on mid size sport SUV segment for 2011!
