Tata has confirmed that Jaguar and Land Rover will be entering India later this year. Ever since Tata acquired the legendary British automobile brands, speculations were ripe that they would be brought to India. The luxury saloon and SUV brands would be solely imported by Tata Motors premium car division which will have its first showroom operation by June’ 09 at Ceejay House in Worli, Mumbai. Judging from the two new websites setup for the brands: www.jaguar.in and www.landrover.in the product range which will be imported into India will include the Jaguar XF, XK, Land Rover Discover 3, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.

David Smith, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover, said: “We are delighted to be formally entering the Indian market, an economy which is still growing appreciably, and able to offer our premium products to a whole new group of customers. It is an important strategic move for Jaguar Land Rover and will enable us to realise our competitive potential in this significant market.”

Tata’s premium car division will be led by the experience Rohit Suri, who will look to expand the two luxury brands in the growing Indian automobile market. Considering that the offerings will be priced on par with the German big boys including Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, it will be interesting to see both Jaguar and Land Rover create a niche for themselves.
