Legendary carmaker Rolls Royce has unveiled it’s latest creation, the Phantom Drophead Coupé in India today. The car is designed on the lines of the 100EX prototype which got such rave reviews that Rolls Royce decided to put it into production. The Phantom Drophead Coupe’s USP is that it provides the owner with the customary luxury and opulence associated with the brand along with a more youthful appeal of a convertible. The car has been designed taking inspiration from classic J-class racing yachts of the 1930s and this is immediately evident from the long bonnet, large rear teak deck and the white yacht type rear curved seats. The car is actually shorter than the regular Phantom which lends to improved handling and a more spirited drive.

Though it’s good to see that Rolls Royce believes that the Indian market is mature enough for the Drophead, our mind wonders where would buyers drive a convertible Phantom in India, the car seems more suited to the manicured sea side streets of France or Spain. Internationally the Drophead Coupe is attracting an entire new set of first time Rolls Royce buyer who are young and rich. Infact the company says that more than half the orders placed for the Drophead Coupe are from customers who have never owned a Rolls-Royce before. Only 200 cars would be produced each year, each handcrafted and personalized according to the tastes of it’s prospective owner.

great car!!!
