UK based Caparo Group famous for it’s T1 track car is developing a ‘city car’ which would be franchised for production to other manufacturers in India. It’s a two year project to design a small light weight city car made with composite materials to make it highly fuel efficient and lower CO2 emissions. Caparo would only be designing the car since that’s what it’s business model it, franchising the designs to car makers around the world. Caparo Group Founder and Chairman Lord Swaraj Paul has stated that the car is being developed at their Chennai facility. Many global auto majors like Toyota, Honda and General Motors have announced plans to launch a compact car in India, we just have to wait and see which one picks up Caparo’s city car for production in the local market.
In a bid to build it’s brand in India Caparo would be showcasing the Caparo T1 at the Auto Expo in January 2008 to be held in New Delhi. The Caparo T1 is a high performance two seater track car with a power ratio of 1,045 bhp per tonne since it weighs only 550 kgs. It would be one of the showstoppers at the Auto Expo 2008 for sure.
