An IMRB study endorsed by SIAM has revealed that the Indian fake auto parts industry is on a rampant growth spree and has more than trebled from 12% to 37-47% in the last 7 years. This rapid growth in fakes has led to not only the boom in the Indian auto industry but also rising exports of fakes from India to rest of the world. The research report cites instantes when Mercedes’s fake parts in the US have been ceized and found to be brought from India.

Fake auto parts are a big hazard to road safety since the vehicle fitted with these no longer conforms to the manufacturer’s safety standards and is liable to fail or worse cause accidents at high speeds on India’s growing highways.
