Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the much awaited diesel Swift as well as the all-new version of it’s SUV Grand Vitara. While the diesel Swift is sure to be a roaring success amongst hatchbacks, the Grand Vitara will help Maruti in making its presence felt in the hot SUV segment.
The 1.3 litre multijet diesel Swift can be expected to come out in January/February 2007 and the Vitara by March 2007. Infact the diesel Swift has been spotted being tested near Gurgaon, the car looked absolutely identical to the petrol Swift but carried a ‘Swift VDI’ badge at the rear and a DDIS badge near the front fender. The 1.3 multijet diesel engine is being produced locally under licence from Fiat at Maruti’s new plant in Manesar, Haryana. The car is expected to have a power output of 75bhp and a mileage of 18-20 in the city and 23-25 on the highway! Expect the diesel Swift to cost between Rs. 4.5-5.5 Lakh depending on trim levels.
The new Grand Vitara was unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show this year and will sport a 1995cc petrol engine with 138bhp. The expected price for this urban SUV is around Rs 18-20 lakh.

Please send me the technical literature of Grand Vitara diesel models with their respective price points which are going to be launched and by when they would be available in India as I am interested to buy one. I am already a maruti user since 1999 and had purchased Maruti Baleno in 2005 after being highly satisfied with Maruti Zen which I have been using since 1999.
Plz let me know whether maruti is coming up with with the diesel variant of the grand vitara
