Bosch Betting Big on India, To Invest Rs.1800 Crore

Bosch, the German auto parts major through its flagship subsidiary Motor Industries Company Limited (MICO) plans to transform its Jaipur plant into a ‘global centre of competence’ with an investment of Rs1,800 crore in the next four years. Bosch entered Rajasthan in 1997 with an initial investment of Rs 240 crore to set up its facility which is even today its largest in India and employs 1200 workers. The plant manufactures distributor type diesel pumps, both mechanical and electronically controlled. Since the auto boom in India will ride on the diesel wave in the coming years Bosch is pumping money to increase supply and establish itself as the country’s largest manufacturer of diesel fuel injection equipment and among the largest in the world.

Bosch supplies diesel pumps to most manufacturers using the latest CRDI diesel engine technology. With CRDI engine technology going mainstream, beginning with the diesel Swift and Getz, both due early 2007, Bosch is a company that will play a very important role and also grow rapidly.
